Day 1 Siena-San Gimignano -
Pick up at your hotel in Florence for a tour in the "medieval times".
First will stop in the hill-town of Monteriggioni, a medieval fortress
built in 1204 by the Sienese, then on to Siena, one of the most
beautiful cities of Tuscany, also famed for the "Palio", the annual
historic horse-race and for its Duomo, the art-filled cathedral that
features works of Michelangelo and Donatello...Onward to San
Gimignano, one of the most charming and picturesque Tuscan hill towns.
Its towers dominate the town in the manner of skyscrapers in our
modern cities. Also, visit of a Crystal factory in Colle val d'Elsa.
Overnight in a Hotel/Villa/Agriturismo in the Tuscan countryside.
Day 2 Full day Montepulciano-Pienza-Cortona (wine and cheese tasting)
We first drive to Pienza, to admire the "perfect Renaissance city"
commissioned by Pope Pius III to the Architect B.Rossellino. There will also be
cheese tasting.
Then on to Montepulciano where you can have a visit of the old cellars
of the town and where you can enjoy a glass of red "Nobile di
Montepulciano".
In the afternoon we'll drive to Cortona, one of the oldest towns of
Italy, first settled by the Etruscan people a few centuries B.C.
Walking in the narrow streets of Cortona you can appreciate the "slow
life" of the Tuscan countryside, you'll easily forget the crowds and
the noise of the big cities... Cortona became also famous for a recent
movie, that you probably heard about: "Under the Tuscan Sun"!!!
Overnight Overnight in a Villa/Agriturismo in the Umbrian countryside.
Day 3 Full day Umbria + transfer Roma. Today we'll visit Assisi, the
home-town of San Francis, a lovely hill town, surrounded by beautiful
countryside. Something not to miss is the Basilic in Assisi, full of
art treasures made by famous artist such as Giotto, Cimabue, Simone
Martini... then you can also enjoy a the rest of Assisi, with its nice
shops and cafes, before we leave the town and start drive through the
countryside, toward Montefalco, the best wine area of Umbria. Here
we'll stop at a winery for a visit and wine tasting of the Sagrantino
di Montefalco, one of the best Red wines of Italy...
Drive to Roma.
