Your driver guide meets you at your hotel for a day in the Apuane mountains. Here, above Carrara, is where all white marble comes from! From these wonderful mountains since Ancient Rome mankind has been extracting one of the most precious building materials in the world: the Marble of Carrara. The list of artwoks realized all over the world with this material is innumerable, among them, Michelangelo's David in the Accademia Museum in Florence We will visit one of the many quarries, where you'll walk on marble. You will see how the extraction was done in the past, with a huge cost in terms of los of lives shaping the life of local people, the proud descendants of the Apuani .
We'll see where Michelagelo lived and chose the marble for its masterpieces and we will finally spend afternoon in Pietrasanta, a charming old town, well known for its ateliers of sculptures, the town that Michelangelo chose to start a new extraction site in the local caves.
